Since everyone’s getting married, I chose this film to rise to the occassion.
I have a feeling soon I’ll start reviewing people’s wedding videography. Lol.
First of all, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore look very retro in this show. It’s quite a nostalgic flick. :)
The Wedding Singer is a 1998 romantic film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, one of my faves on screen couple. Robbie Hart (Sandler) meets Julia Sullivan (Barrymore) while working at a wedding reception as a wedding singer and waitress respectively. Robbie is getting married to his long time girlfriend the following week and invites Julia to come. Unfortunately, his bride jilts him on their wedding day, leaving him broken hearted. Meanwhile, Julia’s fiance who seems indifferent about marriage finally pops the question. She asks Robbie to be her singer much to his reluctance, though he later agrees. As D-Day approaches the two begin spending much time together and before they realised, love starts to grow.
If I were to summarise the movie in a sentence I would describe The Wedding Singer as a simple film about a man and a woman who are looking for someone to grow old with. I’m sure we all have heard such stories and seen such characters too many times in the movies, yet I’ve never really gotten tired of it. Maybe because it feels good to believe in the make-believe.
The story flows at a constant speed throughout, while saving the best scene till the last. Very sweet. But I wish I had seen this movie earlier, because there are too many romance flicks now. The Wedding Singer has every element of a typical romance film. I’m sure this was a special film back in 1998 but not so now. Nonetheless, it’s as simple as it should be.
If you’re looking for classic light-hearted romance flick, this could be one for you.
